1. Hopefully, history doesn’t repeat itself
It was my first day teaching at a new school and I was extremely nervous. Thankfully, everything went really well! After my last class, I jumped into my car and drove home. One problem, it wasn’t my last class. I ditched my own end-of-day history lesson.

2. Next time try Gesundheit
I’m a teacher at the local high-school and last year, during silent reading, one of my students sneezed to which I mistakenly yelled, “Happy Birthday!” It goes without saying, it was not a great first day back.

3. At least you beat traffic
I’m the mother of three school-aged children and one year, on their first day back to school, I tried to beat the typical traffic by dropping them off early. After leaving them I headed directly to the spa for a massage. After an hour, I went back to the change room to grab my things and noticed 12 missed calls. Apparently, school started the next day.

4. An A+ for swagger
On my first day back teaching, I had a student who was not on the attendance list. When I asked if he was in the right classroom he responded, “no, but I’ll always cherish the time we spent together,” then walked out the door.

5. To be fair, race car driver is an awesome future goal
Years ago, when I was a student, the teacher asked everyone to share their name and a future goal. Because it was the first day back, I was very anxious and completely forgot to say my name instead I shouted, “race car driver!”

6. This burn is third degree
During my first day as a preschool teacher, I thought we’d have some fun and learn about the different body parts using modeling clay. I had a student who was working on what I thought was the head, so I asked, “is that the head?” She replied, “no, it’s the butt.” Then she added more clay and said, “that’s your butt.”

7. Awe, to be in love
When I was a grade seven student, the first day of school was also the day I wanted to impress my crush. Although I didn’t exactly have a plan, I positively ended up making an impression. During lunch, I walked past her and (out of fear) stopped swinging my arms. The next day, everyone was walking around with their arms glued to their sides.

8. She has a point; it should be BBLT
I’m a teacher at a small school where staff take turns supervising the cafeteria during lunchtime. The first day of school also happened to be my shift and I overheard a student ask why her BLT had bacon on it. Her friend said, “you ordered a BLT, what did you think the B stood for?” To which she replied, “bread.”
